  1. There are disputes to this question.  Some say the Nile, some say the Amazon.  The Amazon is definately the largest river in the world, having as much volume as the next 10 rivers combined.  The disputes are caused by measurements starting at what is considered the actual headwaters.  The Amazon has been measured between 3,889 miles long ( 6,259 K.M ) and 4,225 miles ( 6,800 K.M. )

The Nile has been measured between 3,417 miles

    ( 5499 K.M. ) and 4,157 miles ( 6690 K.M. )  The latest survey, done in 2001, says the Amazon is 65 miles

( 105 K.M.) longer than the Nile.  A group of scientists is considering that data this year, and as of yet, have not made a conclusion.  So, unofficially, and as of now, the Amazon is the longest river in the world.
