We are in Indiana and would like to adopt two siblings, but everywhere requires a homestudy. How long does this usually take to be completed, but is it like, and how soon after could we adopt children? Thank you and God bless!

  1. We are in the UK, so it probably differs slightly from the US. We completed our home study in June/July and had a daughter in January the following year! Don't worry if it takes a while. It is worth the wait! Good luck!

  2. Hi Bruisin92,

Much of how fast your homestudy gets done is up to you.  How fast you can finish all the essays and things they give you to fill out.  In Wisconsin, we also had to have 3 personal references and our pastor had to write a letter.  Then there were books and classes we had to take.  In all, it took 2 1/2 months working our butts off and bugging all our friends to hurry up and write their essays. lol.

You will be asked everything you could ever imagine.  Its really not that bad, just a lot of writing.  Just be yourself and be honest.  Then they will come and see your house.

You can adopt as soon as your homestudy is complete.  Good Luck and Congrats on your two new children.

  3. You can adopt as soon as it is approved.  I do not know how long the homestudy process is in Indiana but for MN it depended on how soon you got all the info and fingerprints on file and how long it took our social worker to type the final copy to have signed.
