  1. I am not sure how long it is where you are but on an average it is usually atleast 1 year for a baby.  Older children the wait is not as long

  2. I don't know about in TX.... but here in TN, it's several months normally...

  3. Our first agency told us it would take between 3 and 5 years.  We waited a few months, then we went to a private attorney.  From the time that we put in our profile to the time we picked up our child (6 days old) was 45 days!  However, that is not typical.  Even our attorney said that this was faster than usual.

It really depends upon how open you are to mixed race, drug use, prenatal care, and costs.

  4. It depends on how old a child you want and from where you adopt but, generally at least a year.

  5. I'm a social worker from Michigan.....I can tell you there are a lot of waiting children in Texas (not babies)....

It depends on how long it takes an agency to assess you, how long it takes you to get your stuff together, the age and type of child you want (the younger the child, the longer it takes...additionally, white children take longer to find)

Here are the things that hold up my home studies that you can control:

GET YOUR REFERENCES TOGETHER...people who can vouch for you and your ability to be a good parent

COMPLETE ALL PAPERWORK COMPLETELY AND QUICKLY

GATHER ALL DOCUMENTS AND APPLY FOR CERTIFIED COPIES (birth certificates of parents and any children, marriage license, divorce decrees, military discharges, death certificates for any previous marriages, get a local police clearance)

GET YOUR PHYSICALS FROM YOUR DOCTOR

As a social worker I can tell you, nothing is more irritating than over anxious clients who won't do what they are supposed to do....or how take forever and a day to do it.....and then call you all on fire to hurry up!

    Good luck!

  6. The quick answer is: 5 to 10 years depending on the age of the child you are wanted to adopt.

  7. For private agency, public agency, attorney???

Through any private agency, most of it depends on three things:

    1.  How organized and thorough you are getting all your paperwork, references, medical exams, etc. done.

    2.  How open you are....race, s*x, ethnicity, birthmother/birthfather drug and alcohol use, unknown birthfather, multiple birthfathers, medical issues, positive drug screen, handicaps, prematurity, multiples, etc.

    3.  How long it takes for a birthmother to select you.  Some families are selected quickly, others wait.  Some wait a long time.

Generally, once you have your Homestudy done, and if it is approved, you apply to the agency.  Once you have everything in to them and all passes, then you can expect to wait week to years for "the" call.

    Hope that helps!

  8. It is going to depend on a lot of different things. First where are you adopting from. International adoption is normally faster. Through the state adoption can take about a year or better. I am in VA and my sil is FL my home study took 3 months, as did hers then you got to find a child, the child will live in with you for about 30-60 days while the social worker evaluates how ya all do together than you go to court and do the legal stuff. GOOD LUCK! HTH.

  9. It depends on where you're adopting from.  If you adopt from the foster system & are open to a child other than a 'healthy white infant" the wait can be short.  If you're choosing private adoption, it depends on when a birth mother selects you as the adoptive family for the child she's carrying.  some international adoptions take as little as a year & some of them take 4 or more years.

The more you're open to with the child you want to adopt (race, age, sibling group, special needs you are capable of handling, etc.) the shorter the wait, no matter what.

  10. My family's adoption took about 1 year and two months. (But we adopted from africa and that takes more time then a domestic adoption( I am gussing it would take no more than 7 months)).
