I am cleaning out my cupboard, and I have found a couple cans that have probably been in there for over 3 years. And, you can't decipher the date by the codes they put on them! But, with the high cost of groceries, I hate to throw them away if they are still good. Thanks.

  1. too risky to chance botulism and all that mess

  2. I know what you mean about the prices of food, but Id still probably throw them out after three years. I don't know for sure though, that's just me.

  3. Three years is a long time so they're probably gone bad by now. But, to double check, open a can and use your senses! Smell the tuna and then taste a tiny bit of it. If it taste the same as usual than it's probably still good.

  4. canned goods are usually fine for several years.    There is a saying in the kitchen I tend to follow:  when in doubt, throw it out.    I personally think canned goods preserve well though.  It's up to you.
