What is the length of a tour of duty in Iraq or Afghanistan for Air Force personnel?

Around 4 months.

The largest career field in the AF, which is Security Forces, routinely does 6 month deployments.  

4 month deployments as someone mentioned, is for lower ops tempo career fields.  4 months is what the ideal AF deployment is for a 100% manned career field, deploying under normal conditions.

Lastly, you can volunteer for a 1 year deployment if you are so inclined.

Its different for each career field, I am in the medical field and right now its 4 months but as of Jan 2009 they are changing it to 6 months.
