how long is the wait for the US Coast Guard before you get sent to basic training?

I'm a CG Recruiter.  It depends on the office, but the wait shouldn't be more than a few weeks to maybe two months at the most.

The U.S.Coast Guard is a relatively small organization.  They don't need near as many as say the Army does.  I looked into the Coast Guard several years back and their recruiter was honest and told me that if I met all the qiualificatipons for entry, I could not ship gor 12-18 months.   It was longer than I wanted to wait so I went Air Force and the rest is history.
