How long is too long to bleed after having a baby?

I am 26 days post partum and I am still bleeding bright red blood..there is no longer any clots in the blood and it has a yellow ting...not the deep dark red blood that is normal after delivering a child or even menstrual periods. I have not had the brown bleeding that is normal with the slowing down of the periods.

This is my 3rd child and this has never happened before. I am starting to get very concerned and the midwives are not taking my concerns seriously.

Has this happened to anyone else?

  1. i feel your pain. after giving birth for the 4th time i did not stop bleeding completely for about 5 months. good luck and hope it stops soon.

  2. more than 6 weeks is too long i just had a baby and i stop bleeding after 37 days so you should be ok if you see clots then go back to the hospital the best thing to do is rest and relax when you pick up heavy things and scream or do a lot of walkin and cleanin it doesnt help your uterus to heal

  3. Take the new baby and head back to bed for a few days to help your body completely heal from pregnancy and childbirth. In other cultures women are not allowed to do anything the first 30 days, but to care for themselves and baby. Congrats and best wishes, G

  4. I bleed for almost 6 weeks after having my baby, so I think 26 days is normal, but if you are concerned the best thing to do is talk to your doctor.
