My daughter is always on Bebo or MSN. Ok shes 7 but in their school which is Private everyone in their year has MSN and Bebo. Every night after Homework she goes on the Computer for about 1 hour 30 mins.

I have tried to cut it down but she wont listen and i am bored of saying 'get off' etc.

What should i do? How long do your kids spend on the Computer?

  1. OK...she is 7, and not listening to you?  You're in for trouble...kids of that age should not be chatting on the computer...just tell her "NO!", and turn it off...

  2. MY DAUGHTER(WHO IS ALSO 7) IS ALLOWED 30 MINUTES A DAY BUT SHE IS ONLY ALLOWED TO PLAY GAMES. I REALLY THINK SHE IS TOO YOUNG TO BE MESSAGING AND ALL THAT. BUT I THINK IT IS REALLY UP TO THE PARENT. IF YOU FEEL COMFORTABLE WITH LETTING HER THEN THATS ALL THAT MATTERS. BUT BE INVOLVED AND PAY ATTENTION TO WHAT SHE IS SAYING AND DOING ON THERE:)

  3. i am homeschooled online, so I spend about five hours on the computer (i do have books, and pe.)

    Plz answer my question! Thanx.

  4. My 9 year old son only get 30 minutes on the computer and my 14 year old son only get 1 hour to an 1 1/2...if it's for homework then longer....but for your daughter to be on the computer that long just to be on MSN is way too long it's creating bad habits too early in her life and that could spell trouble in the future.

There are alot of other productive things that she should be doing with her time at that age.

Be firm with your daughter ...when you tell her it's time to get off ...mean it ..don't just say it....who's the parent here you or her...when you say your computer time is up give her 5 minutes to say good bye to her friends and that's it ...if she tries to stay on longer then you sign her out of MSN and turn the screen or the computer off.

  5. You're the mother....take charge.  If she doesn't want to comply to your rules, then do not let her get on the computer at all.  Kids need boundries and rules.  You're not her friend....You are her mother and you make the rules, whether she likes them or not.

    Good luck!

  6. well atleast an hour a day or they will day but i try to increase it execpt there 10 and 12 and so they talk to there frinds all the time thats why

  7. If I were you I would unplug the computer or take away the keyboard after a certain time.

I am 16 (17 in a few weeks) and I am not on the computer very much. We got our first computer when I was 4 and I wasn't allowed to use it until I was 12. I mainly use it for schoolwork and the occasional websurfing.

  8. both my children (9 & 5) use computer most days - one for homework, the other for fun. They are allowed half hour then they swap over for a total of one hour each - BUT - if I feel they too tired, or their eyes twitching or they just getting plain rude and refusing my requests/ignoring me, then I just switch it off. End of. You'll face some screams and pulled faces but if they don't listen to you now, when will they?

  9. My child is 14 years old.  He uses the computer for school work only during the week.  He is allowed to check his email to see if he has a email from his father (who is in Iraq) but only uses the computer for fun on the weekend.  He spends a lot of his free time, practicing his guitar, skateboarding, basketball.  He is ok with that rule.  If your daughter is spending too much time on the computer than you want, why don't you put a password on it.  That way you have control on how much time you want her on it.

  10. Unplug it and tell her to go play outside.

  11. My kids get an hour and half in the evening to either watch television, play video games or play on the computer.  If they all three want to do something at the same time they have to put a quarter in the jar for a half hour and then move on to something else.

If I had your problem I would simply unplug the computer, problem solved.

  12. Our almost 10 year old is on the computer 1-2 hours a day, about 2-3 days a week, and 3-4 hours during the weekend.

Our 16yo is on the computer constantly, but he's is a technology freak and is very skilled with computers.
