How long is your commute on public transit?

Question

For all of you who use public transportation (bus, subway, ferry etc.) daily to get to work/school within a major city - how long is your commute? How do YOU deal with longer commutes and inaccurate arrival times, and would you prefer to use a car?

Just curious on your opinion!

If I rode the bus there would be three changes and it would take four hours. That's why I never considered it as a viable alternative to driving. As to car pooling, when you work a loose schedule, where you sometimes get called in early and often have to stay late, car pooling isn't practical either.
