  1. My commute is very short- 2.5 miles each way, but I moved to an apartment complex specifically to be within walking distance to my office (I walked for several years because I did not drive when I first moved to Fla).  I've had a license for 13 years now, but decided to stay put, in large part because I did not want a commute- and 13 years is well before the price of gas went skyhigh.  You make a good salary, but depends on what your obligations are.  Husband? House? Kids?  Only you can know if you paycheck can take a hit if you find a job closer to home.  But 10 hours a week out of your life is significant too....and much more than I'd be willing to give (tho I did commute that long when I worked in NYC, but it was by train, so I could sleep or read, which you cannot do while driving, tho I'd swear some people try!)

  2. Wow, that is a ways to drive.

  3. You need to make a holistic decision based on a number of factors, including the availability of another job, the possibility of moving, etc.  If you are single, I say just move closer.  If you have a family and you can't get another job closer to where you live, you might be stuck, in which case you should look for (or start) a vanpool or carpool.  Telecommuting one day a week might not be a bad idea either.

  4. if you leave this job what are your plans-

    get another job

    move closer to your job

    can afford not working

I commute 45 min but also make alot less than you do.

I complain to myself about gas prices but keep buying it-I do not smoke or drink alcohol so that is a huge savings.

Buying gas is a necessary expense if I want to commute to and from work. I need a job to live. I am not rich and there is no public transportation near me. I also do not have anyone near me to carpool

  5. I hate the gas prices, but your making way more than i am and i still drive.

    $3.33 oregon

  6. I commute 23 miles each way. I feel that gasoline is appropriately priced for the amount of energy contained in it. Instead of consuming one gallon of gasoline, I tried pushing my car for 30 miles at 65 miles per hour, and after 50 feet and never getting past walking speed, I decided that $3.50 per gallon suddenly looked like a really good deal.

  7. My commute it 55 miles one way. I thought that was long, but in a recent survey in my county, that's about average.

With gas prices at $3.50/gal, I've started slowing down and driving only as needed.

Though, I have considered moving closer to work or closer to school to cut down on the distance.

  8. i agree with u, i drive 45min. to my job. gas prices here are about $3.59!!!!!!
