  1. maybe two or three months, if you dont get afraid of the water.

  2. jeez were have you been those 30 years

  3. well, it depends on what you call learning to swim.. there are varying degrees of leisurely swimming. to get solid foundations, i would say 12 weeks or so.

  4. It truly depends on your instructor and your ability to "transform".  It is always difficult learning skills later in life.  We are older, not as flexible or as fearless.  Fear not, it can be done and I have taught many adults including a 63 year old and it took her only 5 x 30 minute lessons.  Key points:  learn to balance your body by floating properly on the belly and back, learn to breathe correctly by inhaling through the mouth and exhaling gently out the nose in the water.  Head position is key to balance.  Keeping your head down and learning to roll the body to breathe is essential.  You do not lift the head to breathe.  (This causes the legs to sink and you will get water in your mouth)  Learning to finish your stroke all the way backwards is also important for balance when rotating to breathe.  good luck and best wishes.  keep it up!

  5. The real question is, are you afraid of the water? If you have a fear of the water, you should probably take it slow and just make yourself comfortable in the water. That, alone, might take around 6 sessions. Once you are there, learning will be easy and should only take about 10 lessons. If you have n fear of the water, you can skip the 6 sessions of getting used to the water.

good luck, and have fun! : )

  6. Anyone can learn to swim at any age. Like Nike says, "Just Do It."

Asking a message board how long it will take when they know nothing about your ability or experience with water is counter-productive. If you want to learn, go to your local pool and take lessons and go from there.
