My passport expires March 9, 2009. I will travel 3 weeks in Italy returning to the US Oct 12, 2008. Some countries require a passport to be valid 6 months after departure. Is there any Italian requirement that a US passport be valid for any length of time after departure my from Italy?

  1. No the rule says the passport will valid for a period of 6 months prior to travelling to a country....not departure

Once you have have left a country...that particular country couldnt care less if you have 6 months or not on your passport

    So the answer is No

  2. The validity of your passport should "preferably" exceed your intended stay by at least three months.  I say "preferably", because that's the requirement to apply for a Schengen Visa (granting you access to Italy and other European countries).

As an American tourist, you don't need a visa for such a short stay and they would probably let you in as long as your passport is valid for the duration of your entire stay.

Anyway, based on your dates, you're good to go.

  3. Most countries (there are some exceptions) require that your passport be valid for at least 6 months past your scheduled return to the U.S.

    Have a nice trip!

  4. 90 Days!
