I train in Muay Thai and Jujitsu 3xs a week. I also do plyometrics and weights at the gym 2xs a week and run 2xs a week with 1-2 days of rest per week. How much periodic rest time I should take and from how long of working out? I was thinking of 3 months workout and 1 month off. Thanks in advance.

  1. Why? The 1-2 days of rest are plenty. I don't even have a rest day. Mon.-Fri. I do Tae Kwon Do Chung Do Kwan, Hapkido, and Kuntaw. Then on the weekends I do Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu.

  2. Here's the thing: if you take a month off, you may start to go into more atrophy than you would after a week. After a week, you'll be losing a little bit of gain, but with muscle memory, you'll regain and avoid plateauing longer. 1 week off a month is a pretty good suggestion. Besides, if you enjoy working out, a week is a chore on its own.

Men's Health had an article on scheduling time off in your workout to actually improve results, but that was something like 6 to 8 months again. You might see if a copy of it made it on the website (http://www.menshealth.com/), and, if you don't already, start picking up their magazine. It's like an owner's manual for your body with monthly updates.

  3. i think it would make more sense to take the last week of each month off. taking a break for an entire month will REALLY set back your body progress. even when you take your break, you should try to lift once a week and run two or three times, all the while stretching the muscles which will no doubt tighten.

    best of luck

  4. Train for 3 months and take a maximum of 1 week off. Any more than that is overkill and will make if difficult to return.

  5. 1 month is really bad

if you want to get stronger then dont take any breaks

one week break is just as bad

you'll muscles will start to forget if you dont train

maybe 1 or 2 times a week but a whole entire month or week would be really bad
