How long on average does it take to learn the electric guitar?

i just got mine 2 days ago.....i absolutly love it!! im having a hard time getting my fingers on it right, its taking forever!

i want to hopefully be good enouph to be in a band that puts out cds and stuff............i practice 1 hour every night since i got it

how long do you think it will take me to learn, to be that good?

any advice?

Take lessons!

I am offering guitar lessons for all ages over the internet with a web cam. So all you need is a computer, internet and a web cam and we can get started. Costs are $20 for a half hour lesson. I give proper instruction so you can become a wonderful guitar player.. however I will make it fun!! You will learn chords, scales, picking and strumming, theory, songwriting, ect. It could take anywhere from a couple months to a couple of years depending upon how much you practice. To tell you the tuth It doesn't take long to get pretty good and play alot of songs you hear on the radio, as long as you practice alot. I would also advise getting a teacher. My teacher was just someone that I knew that played guitar, and he wound up being a great teacher. My teacher advised me to go online and to start trying to learn tabs of the songs I know, which really helped I already know the intro to sweet home alabama and I only started a couple of weeks ago. I also downloaded the software called Powertab editor, wich is extremely awesome but a little tricky to download but this site really helped:http://www.power-tab.net/getarticle.php?...

you can follow the link above, or just go to http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/ and search for your song, filter the songs by power tabs in the top bar that says Search results, and choose a song. When the screen comes up it will have a grey box that says Please note that you must have Power Tab software installed on your computer in order to view this file. The word installed will be a hyperlink and click on it. Scroll down to the hyperlink that says install powertab editor.

This is a full set of directions on how to install it. When your done you go to Ultimate guitar.com and search for any tabs you want but make sure they are power tabs or else it wont work. When you get to the tab screen like before when you clicked the installed hyperlink in the grey box, scroll down to the bottom left to the blue box and click on Download "............" powertab it will ask you if you want to save or open. click save. Then bring up powertab editor software ( it should have a blank tab staff) And hit open and find the tab you downloaded should be there.

thats probablly really confusing, but if you take the time to download the software it will be worth your while.
