How long on average does potty training take?

I have a 15 1/2 month old boy.

He tells me when he pees and poops. We got the little seat and he stayed sitting on it, didn't actually go, but stayed on it.

Any tips?

  1. you're doing better than most families i know.

It really depends on the child itself. Sometimes they are just not ready to potty train at that age (that's pretty young). Some children pick it up in a couple weeks where as others may take a couple months or more. You just have to constantly keep taking them to the bathroom and keep them on a routine. Take him every hour or so, and make sure you do that daily so he doesn't get confused. Praise him when he does go in the potty so he knows that's the best place to do it at, but don't scold him if he misses the potty, just let him know it's okay and you'll try to get it in the potty the next time, and that we all have accidents sometimes. (and im going to say this just for laughs...rub his nose in it and put him in the corner. haha.)

  2. That's really young.  Just be positive, consistent and reward him for progress (stickers, treats.)  Don't be upset if there's a set-back.

  3. There is no average!  They all do their own thing when it comes to potty chair use.  Stickers and prizes worked with one child at our house, candy treats with another, nothing with the third and praise for the fourth.  You just try different things until the right motivator for your child.  If your little guy is already telling you when he goes that is a great sign that he could be an easy trainer.  I would just keep his seat available for when he wants to try it and his time will come and it will become natural for him when he is ready for it.

    Good luck to you!

  4. I have five children.  The first (a boy) was totally poty trained at 2 y 4mo.  Twin daughters we not potty trained till nearly 3 y.  One daughter we trained at 2.5 years.  The last one (a boy) traine around 2 years 6 months.  With that being said, I think you just need to let them go for a while and they will eventually get it.

  5. just stay on it and dont give up. my brother took 3 years b4 he was fully potty  trained!! good luck
