  1. If, I read you correctly, You are trying to ask " how long shall the Sun last " instead of asking " how long will the Sun last ? "

For how long shall the Sun last ?

My answer is: As long as You want it to.

For how long will the Sun last ?

My answer is: The Sun will spend a total of approximately 10 billion years as a main sequence star.

I hope this helps and don't worry, there is plenty of sunshine for You for many years to come.

  2. It's estimated that...our sun has about another 5 billion years or so left. It is roughly half way through it's life cycle now.

Eventually..the sun will expand into a red giant star...and engulf Mercury, Venus..and most likely the Earth as well.

  3. 4.5 billion years.

  4. Depends on what you mean by "last".

The sun will expand to a red giant starting in a few billion years, reaching its maximum expansion in about 6.5 billion years.  During that phase it will puff off a lot of its outer atmosphere, and eventually shrink to a white dwarf (which will be very hot but only about the size of the Earth).  It will cool off (that will take a trillion years or so) and eventually become a black dwarf.

The Earth and all life will be destroyed in about 3 or 4 billion years, but the sun as an object will always exist (just not as a star).

  5. It will last an estimated 5bn years

  6. 4.5 billion years, give or take.

  7. About another 5 billion years before it turns into a red giant.
