I just got it yesterday...

I do know that it can be different for everyone... but what was your experience? Also I am breastfeeding... and my baby is almost 3 months old, and I havent started my period... will mirena make me have one even though I am breastfeeding?

  1. it took about 6 months for it to settle down.  I suspect that breast feeding will if anything reduce the chances of having a period.  As Mirena is local there may not be any connection at all.  Breastfeeding in general delays the start of periods. It's a natural form of birth control.  Not wholly reliable of course.

  2. I bled for over 2 months.  Most women bleed for  a few weeks.

(Mirena will not make you have a period.  In fact, it will probably keep you from getting periods at all.)

  3. I had cramps and bleeding off and on for about 3 months after I got mirena put in. I love having it though, because after that I only get a period every 3 or 4 months and it is always really light. I had my period while I was breastfeeding, but I think it depends on the person. Hope I helped and congrats on your little one :)

  4. ive had mirena for two months now, and i still have cramping and spotting/bleeding daily. its not too bad, ive gotten used to having to wear a panty liner every day. the cramps never get too bad, at the beginning they were like severe period cramps, now they're minor and just come and go. it just sucks because there are things i would enjoy that are not possible when im bleeding, even if it is just a tiny bit. it makes you feel very un-hygenic. just a tip, id put on a&d ointment if i were you, i actually started getting irritated because of the constant moisture. as far as the breastfeeding, i also breastfeed. my son is almost 7 months old. prior to the mirena, i was on camila, waiting for a period so my cervix would be open enough to get the mirena. it had been 4 months and nothing, the nursing was preventing me from ovulating, so they were going to try and put it in anyway at my next appointment for my pap. a few days prior to my appoinment i started spotting. i went in and they tried to put it in but were un-sucessful, my cervix was still too closed. the doctor wasnt sure if i was going to have a full period or if i would just spot, but it did turn out to be a full one so i went back and had it put in sucessfully. we to this day arent sure if i was going to have a full period anyway or if her messing around up there triggered all the lineings to release. a week after insertion, the heavy bleeding stopped, signaling the end of my period. since then ive had the constant light bleeding, but nothing heavy enough to suggest that ive started again. so....the point of all that is im not sure why i had one and was able to get mirena, if it was natural or got triggered. but since having it in, i havent had another period. its only been 2 months though...i could start having them again tomorrow, you never know.when i asked the dr if it would the iud would trigger a period, she said "well, you could bleed, you could not, it varies with everyone anyway, and you breastfeeding even adds more mystery to it."real helpful, huh? i suppose she was just telling me to expect either or.  As you said, everyone is different. a friend of mine has had hers in for 5 months and only has light bleeding for 2 days then nothing until the same time next month.( im hoping i get that way...or better yet, no bleeding at all :) but if you read the handbook they give you at the office or the mirena website, they tell you that on average the cramps last up to 6 months, and the bleeding up to 6 months, at which point something like 20% of women dont bleed at all, and of the remaining 80%, a large percentage have very light, cramp free, short periods. so hopefully at worse ive got 4 more months, and you six. we'll see, huh? oh, and i dont think i ever remember reading it in the manual, but it gives you uterine tremors. it kinda feels like the fluttering you get around 4 months pregnant, when you first feel the baby move. its freaky, i wish i had been told to expect it. it wasnt until it had been happening for a week or so that i found a support group of women w/ mirena, alot of whome were having the same issue. so i called the dr office and spoke to a nurse and she said that yes, it was a common side effect. uh...then why didnt you tell me? oh, and they warn you over and over about the mood swings, but ive been fine. just been my same happy go lucky self, only thing different is i get teary eyed at the sappy  parts of movies more now. could just be cause im a parent though...anyway, hope something of what i said helped. good luck with it, i hope your one of the lucky ones.
