I'm heading to Nassau County tomorrow from New Jersey and we're set to reach Long Island right around 7-7:30am. I need to arrive at my destination by 9am, will we be able to make it hitting rush hour traffic?

Any suggestions for the best/quickest possible route?

  1. NYC Long Island traffic starts to pick up around 6 AM (towards the island).

Depending on HOW FAR into Nassau, I would give myself plenty of time.  The problems is that if you were to get to L.I.E. just before 6 AM, then you would get there too early.  But if you were to get to L.I.E.  just after L.I.E.  you might spend hours on traffic.

If you are coming from north jersey, take the GWB and then the Cross Bronx to Whitestone bridge or Throgs neck bridge. Then follow the signs to L.I.E (if you are going towards north shore). OR skip L.I.E and take the cross island towards Southern State Parkway (if you are going towards south shores)

If you are coming form south or central jersey, take the Lincoln tunnel, cross the Manhattan (west) on 34 st - then into mid-town tunnel.  Now you are in Qns.  This leads you directly in to L.I.E..  If you are going to north shore stay on L.I.E. If you are going toward south shores, get on the Cross island form L.I.E. (about 5 to 10 mile on L.I.E. - I never measured) to southern state parkway

    Good Luck...

    P.S.  I live 5 minutes from L.I.E.

P.P.S. If there's an accident on the road -all bets are off.
