I am someone who keeps copies of things and files things all the time. But I would like to know if I should keep copies of my auto bills, utility bills for more then one or two months. Is it necessary. What about bank statements?

  1. I would keep them for two tax years

  2. ~~As long as you are not claiming anything on your income tax (i.e., portion of any utilities due to having a home office, or anything to do with business write off; phone calls, etc.) you do not need to keep when you know your account is credited. If they appear in anyway on your income tax as a deduction, then hold on to them with receipts for the corresponding year for 7 years. Always keep a log of your account numbers in case you must log into your account on the web or ever need to call the utility company.~~

  3. Months?  Months?

Good Lord!  I must be totally out of control...Thank you for bringing me to my senses.  I"m going to start getting rid of stuff tomorrow.
