I have them in little peat containers in potting soil, they are covered with a clear plastic bag, how long should I keep them like that before moving them outside?

  1. Can you be more specific with your question?

Are you storing them in the refrigerator for future use or do you have cuttings in starter pots that you are trying to root?

I’ll give it a shot anyway.

If you are storing them for future use, as soon as they start to change color and wilt they are starting to rot and should be thrown away.

If you have potted them and covered them with plastic to make a “greenhouse” – once you start to see new growth the cuttings have rooted (do not let the plastic touch any part of the plant – even if you need to stick wooden skewers or chop sticks into the soil – use whatever you need to use in the pots to hold the plastic away from the plants). Once they have rooted, you can open the plastic bag about an inch a day until it is completely open – then it can be removed.

Once the plastic has been removed put them outside in the shade and gradually get them accustomed to the place where they will be permanently. When they have been outside – in the shade for a few days – give them some early morning sun. Gradually increase the time they spend in the sun until they are positioned where they will be permanently.

  2. Until you see it is wilting, and changing colour

  3. You want to root cuttings as soon as possible.  The longer you let them sit the less likelihood of successful rooting.  Get your cutting into some water so it can start rooting.
