A relaxer (perm) for her hair!

I think this question is better answered by those familiar with African American hair.

  1. for hair? how old is your child they are never good for the hair but 12 AND ONLY IF ITS HEALTHY HAIR

  2. I assume you mean a stool softener? If so, don't do it unless really, really necessary.

Feed the child more fiber on a regular basis. Not tablets or liquids that contain corn surups, but the reall thing.

Give her more veggies, dips are ok if small amount, fresh fruits like melons, strawberries, peaches, and yes an apple a day really is good for you. Also nuts, without the salt. They have nutrients that are not found in other foods.

Whole grain breads, and they now come natural as well, sara Lee makes a whole grain natural, no dyes or chemicals.

Whole grain cereals like Kashi. They make one called Heart to Heart which tastes like honey nut cherrios but has way more protein and fiber.

Fiber one make a great tasting bar with chocolate chip and peanut butter ones as well. They taste like candy bars not cardboard. They are great! Make sure she does not drink sodas, at all! Corn surups not only raise blood pressure, cause weight gain big time, een more than sugar, but they actually eat away at the bones as well as teeth. Give her water, not flavored. Add some lemon, or lime, or even concord grape juice. No, not the ones with corn surups or bunches of sugar like Juicy Juice, but Costco has one called Newmans Own and Kodem which is found in ethnic area, has a great, little more expensive concord grape juice. Flavor the water with a little bit of the juice.

Good luck and happy mothering! From mom of 4 and grandmom of 3!

  3. Why? Is she hyper? Give more details, get more answers.

  4. If she can go without one then do not give her one because it just ruins your hair.. I got my first one when I was lil and I got one of those kiddy ones and my hair came out in clumps. So now I have to use the extra sensitive ones with no lye. If she really needs a perm i'd say around 7th grade.. But if you can just flat iron her hair then do that.. Salon's are great at that and I have really thick hair.

  5. you dont say why they need one ?

  6. Personally I think that you should wait as long as possible. I didn't receive a perm until I was in middle school...about 13. I also had a nice grade of hair that was just thick and wavy and needed to be managed, I also have younger cousins who got perms when they were 4 and 5, but the texture of there hair was a lot different than mines was.

  7. Are you talking about a laxative?  If so, the answer, generally, is don't -- depending on the child's age.

My daughter was constipated a lot at age 3, and our pediatrician told us NOT to use any laxatives.  Miralax was the doctor's recommendation -- a totally harmless powder you add to a drink that helps the colon absorb water.  It helped a lot -- but you have to be dilligent and administer the Miralax daily.

Other things that help are prunes (dried plums, as they're often called these days), and pear juice if you can find it.  Dried plums come infused with different flavors like cherry, orange, and grape, and my kids really like the cherry ones.

If you're NOT talking about constipation, and are instead wondering whether to give your daughter mood-altering drugs or something, then shame on you!

  8. 6 months.

  9. like ritilin now take control

  10. Mamadamus says if you mean a relaxer like what you put in your hair, then you must wait until she is at least 16 years old. Mamadamus says if you are dolling up your child at a young age, you are asking for trouble. Mamadamus says let kids be kids while they are kids. Mamadamus is sick of adults doing a "jon benet" on little children.

Mamadamus says if you are talking about some kind of medication, you better be seeing a doctor and getting their advice, otherwise, Mamadamus says you are going to be at the root of a police investigation for abuse.

Mamadamus hopes it's the hair thing instead.

  11. ask your doctor, duh.
