How long should I wait?.......?

I just found out a friend of mines died this morning. I have a large crew of friends that feel like family and he was part of it. We didn't have a real close bond but we hung out numerous times. He was such a good person and always smiled. He was a sweet & kind hearted person. He left a daughter behind. I was also friends with the family. My question is since it his death (car accident) happened last night, when is the right time to call the family, and what should I say aside from giving my condolences?

call now and ask if there is anything you can do. like look after the child or make phone calls or take around a meal , helpful things at this time will be remembered favourably. rather than call go around and look to see where you can help. i'm sorry for your loss.

I think your best bet is to send them a sympathy card. I think if you called it'd seem like they appreciate it but in reality they probably don't want to talk at all. Sooo, just send them a card telling them that you're truly sorry for their loss, if there's anything you can do at all to let you know and maybe tell them what a great person he was and that he'll truly be missed.

Call as soon as you can. Ask if their is anything that you can do to help them. Better yet go and see them and talk to them in person. It will sow that you really care.

call as soon as possible its always nice to hear from a loved ones friend and see all the people who loved and cared about teh person.. it makes people feel better....

and yes if you dont have a number email them.. and them for the address and then send condolences properly by sending flowers or a nice card
