This article states we shouldn't expect the new AMD 45nm quads till Q1 2009. I know AMD had that B2 stepping error when they released the first Phenoms, so how long should I wait after Q1 2009 before I buy a stable 45nm quad? I also want to wait for Asus to release a stable AM3/HT3/DDR3 motherboard. I'm willing to wait for all the errors to be hashed out so I don't have to do any chip or BIOS flashes.

I know AMD will roll out the 45nm's for the desktop, server, and mobile market segments before working on their 40nm Fusion "Shrike" chip. Should I wait for the tail end of the K10 rollout before buying a stable 45nm quad AM3/HT3/DDR3 system?

Thanks, in advance, for any feedback.

  1. They are supposed to be released Jan 8. I think AMD has learned from their past mistakes, so there won't be an Arrata bug. The current samples are running just fine.

I wouldn't wait too long. DDR3 mobos are already out there, as are AM2+ boards. If you want to be an early adopter, I say jump on it.
