Question:

How long should I wait to play volleyball after spraining my ankle?

I came down funny on my ankle during a game and sprained it pretty badly. I got it x-rayed and it's not broken, just sprained. The doctor said to walk on it to maintain mobility, but didn't specify how long before I should start playing again. I start at libero and my team is in playoffs, so I'd like to get back asap, but I also know that it's easy to reinjure an ankle and end up with serious problems. It's been 3 days and it's still painful to walk on, fairly swollen, and seriously bruised a ways up my shin, but I've got a solid aircast brace to play in. How long should I wait before I get back out?

  1. it depends. it could be anywhere from a week to 6 weeks. definitely wait until the pain goes away and its not so bruised.

and make sure you always where ankle braces. they are so important for keeping your ankles protected.

  2. call your doctor and ask!!!

  3. I THINK U HAVE TO TAKE REST FOR AOUT 2WEEKS IN THAT TIME U WILL BE FIT TO COME BACK IN ACTION.

  4. I sprained my ankle just before the season started and i sprained it pretty bad but i rested for 2 days iceing it most of both days and played with the pain. It healed slower than it would have if i kept off it but i could miss our season.

  5. i play volleyball too and i know you really want to start playing again but you should wait untill their is little or no pain when you move your ankle. and when you do stert playing again wear an ankle brace for a while even if it doent really hurt.

  6. There is no set limit, because everyone's body is different. You need to wait until it stops having the pain and it shouldnt be bruised or swollen. If i was you i would wait about 3-4 days after it quits having pain and swelling and being bruised because you still need a couple days to make sure it is back to normal. I know its tempting, i remember a friend who sprained her ankle, and she wanted to play so bad, but she knew that she could still sit on the sidelines and watch as her friends and her team play. She sat and cheered her team. So just make sure you dont end up hurting yourself more.

  7. get acupuncture and you only have to wait like 3-5 days. What the do it poke needles on the part that is sore and take the blood out and its really interesting because all the blood coming out will be kinda dark colored and thats because your blood rushed to that spot on your ankle to try to heal it. It will cause your swelling to die down and help you recover faster!

If no acupuncture then it might take 2 weeks.. i've had it happen and it sucks... sprained my ankle twice..

  8. you should wait a least a month! if its really bad just wait until it starts to feel a lot better and doesnt hurt at all to walk on it! Then you should go to your doctor and see if its ok to start to play again! Its going to be hard to get back into playing but your going to need to take it easy when you first start playing again!

  9. probably 10 days
