I have a Evinrude 15hp from 78 or 79. When I put the muffs on and started it no water came out. I was afried to burn up POPS motor so I shut it off. The manual says it has a thermostat. I'm wonder what is a safe time to allow water to come out.? If I remember correctly it came out right away last year, any time I put the muffs on. Please help!!

  1. Yeah, you should see water from the check almost immediately. Sounds like you may have a blockage somewhere.

  2. It should come out pretty much right asway. if it takes more than about 30 seconds I'd shut it down and check the impellor for damage.

  3. i would not hurt to simply remove the thermostat and run the engine. you could also replace it with a thermostat.

  4. It dose sound like you have a blockage a motor with a bad pump will still pee when a hose is hooked to it b/c the hose has the system pressurized the first thing i would do is to run a piece of wire up the check hose to make sure nothing has built anything to block water flow (mud dobers, lief cutter spiders) sometimes the motor getting water but just the check tube is blocked. Seen it more than once

How much water is coming out of the exhaust ?
