How long should a mattress last?

WE have a silent night miracoil mattress on our bed. It is only 2 and a half years old but it is already uncomfortable with the springs coming through.

My husband and I have a combined weight of 19stone on a double mattress.

How long should a mattress last?

Any reccommendations on a new mattress?

  1. depending on the brand you should get a minimum 10 years.

if you only got  2 years out of it then see if there is a warrenty.  majority of mattresses will have a warrenty

  2. It really depends on how you treat it, do you turn it regular this makes all the difference, and how much it's bounced on lol, but seriously it should last longer than this although my seally mattress had a spring coming through after 5 years and didn't see that much action, perhaps that's the manufacturers new idea so we have to replace them more often.

  3. I was always under the impression that you should change your mattress after 10 years.

It would seem that there is something wrong with your one if the springs can be felt after 2 years.

Try these two websites to see if they can help you.

  4. It's probably just the brand of beds. You should get a Sleep number bed their supposed to last double a normal mattress.

It also may be your back or something else.

Usually, a mattress could get 10 or so maybe 20 years if its a really good mattress.

  5. Silent Night are no good!! They survive on their reputation from decades ago!! The Miracoil is rubbish, all the springs sre connected and in will not contour to the shape of your body or support the arch of your back(important). What you need is either a 'Pocket Sprung' mattress, where all the spings are in their individual pockets and shape to you or Memory Foam a very dense latex that supports and shapes to you also(expensive) or a combination of the two! You should look to spend about £400-£700 for a good double mattress! Possibly slightly less or more! They should last for 5-10 years easily, maybe plenty more! Dont buy a guarantee thir worthless and try to turn your mattress as often as possible!! I used to sell beds-- and i was good!

  6. A lot longer then that!! More like 9-10 years..

  7. Girl, you should stop getting jiggy on it so often!!  LOL!  I'd have thought a good mattress should last around 10 years!  You must be putting it through some serious action!
