I am training for a 5K. I run them as fast as I can. Sometimes my leg muscles get really sore and I know I have to give them rest, but I don't want to rest too long. How long should I rest my legs in between 5K runs? Sorry, I am sort of new to running. Thank you

  1. are you saying stop in the middle of the race and rest, if you are saying that don't, just slow down your pace, because if you stop, it really hurts more, and messes you up mentally, if you are talking about after teh race, def, a day or two good luck to you!!!!

  2. I always have one hard run a week, four light runs and rest one day. I am just begining again but when I was doing the heavy mileages I found one good day off with resting my legs was good enuf.

  3. the 5k is a goal and should not take up the focus and majority of all of your runs.  You should do running in between but as far as the question , " when should I race my next 5k?" the answer is that you can do them every week, but no more than 5 in a row or 10 per year.

  4. Usually people alternate hard and easy days. If you run hard or long one day, then the next day should be an easy day.

You should schedule one day off each week, so the off day could be the day after your long or hard run.

Normally distance runners do much more than a 5K every day, so it is relative to your conditioning and what type of training you are doing.

It is normal to feel sore after a long day.

Doing 2 or 3 hard or long days a week should be enough for you.

  5. the more often you run the shorter rest time you will need as your muscle and endurance builds. as long as you are pushing it tearing your mucle and creating growth you are going to be sore.

your feet will need tim to work into running it daily. i suggest buying high quality socks if you do not have them yet.
