How long should a person wait to go running after he had a good breakfast with eggs, ham, pancakes, & fruits?

I am just a beginning runner. I try to run 5 miles for one hour everyday, sometime after breakfast but before lunch. Thank you.

  2. Thats a pretty big breakfast...I personally would wait a couple of hours (especially if your feeling "full")  Some people can run on a full stomach, and people like me would end up puking on the side of the road or belch throughout the run.

  3. Run lots with pancakes... You could have done without the carbs... I would say at least 30 minutes....

  4. I would think an hour to an hour and a half, When I eat I cant run if I have that "I just ate" feeling. So if you decide to run after that time The least likely you are to feel nauseous or lightheaded.

Typically I prefer to fun on an empty stomach, so I would run before my breakfast.  But not all of have that energy.  A big breakfast that you describe would be considered a full meal, while you can run as soon as you are comfortable to do so.  A meal like that should be eaten 3 – 4 hours before your run.  

    If you need to eat before you run, I recommend a carbohydrate snack 30 – 60 minutes before the run. An apple and cheese would be good, or the old stand by Toast and Peanut butter.  Most runs that go over 20 minutes put you in Fat burning mode.  So once the initial 20 minutes is done, it really is not going to matter what is in your system.  Your muscles are as fueled as they are going to get.
