I have an Epson R340 printer Which keeps coming up with "parts inside your printer are coming to the end of their service life" should I just buy a new printer?

  1. Well it all depends on how much you use it We have tried Epson,Cannon and Lexmark Dont rate them. The company changed to HP they are two years old and get hammered to death, fast and give us no aggro. We found the same as you with stupid messages coming up with the others we took no notice till they died or run out of ink.

  2. Depending on their use most printers last two to four years. They are basically a throw away item now. You can pick up A4 size ink jet printers now for about £30.

  3. It depends how much you use it.

As for the detail given, wait until it fails.  It's probably it's memory that estimates how much you have used it and bases it's message on that.

My (Lexmark) printer keeps telling me that the ink is low in my cartridges, but I can usually get about an extra 6 months out of them before I replace them.

  4. It is just the printer makers way of getting you to buy a new printer, if it is working well and printing the stuff you need correctly just carry on, if you do want to get a new one take a good look at the cartridges that they use first. some of the new ones sell for £30 and when you need a new cartridge you pay £40.

  5. How old is it and what did it cost new?

I have an Epson R300 and it's about 2.1/2 years old now and working fine. But if it were to start playing up, I would get a new one. They are not really economically viable to repair these days. Mine cost £85 new and can get newer models for about £55 now.

The genuine replacement inks cost more than the printer these days.

  6. Life span of a printer is not counted by days & years but by usage. When parts of your printer have done 'X' amount of prints then they are deemed as 'at the end of there service life' - hence the message.

It will be cheaper to replace the printer than to have the old printer reconditioned.

  7. It depends on how much use it got. This message usually indicates that the ink tank beneath the printer, which sops up excess ink, is full. It's a major deal to replace it and a big mess. You are betting off getting a new one. In the States a C120 is $22 new and an RX595 is $45. You can get a better new one that the cost of fixing the old one - or even the cost of buying the ink if you don't know where to go.

  8. yes buy a new one, you can can get new one for around £50.00. take the old one to the council tip.

  9. Epson?

    Notorious for things like that

probs a couple of years though

  10. wait till it dies then buy a new one

  11. Run it to the ground, then invest in a cannon or brother, I've been told that they are the two most reliable brands on the market.
