  1. 10 mins

  2. All the information with Amtrak is right here on this site glad to have helped...http://www.amtrak.com/servlet/ContentSer...

Amtrak's new timetables go into effect Monday, April 28, with many adjusted departure and arrival times and more frequent service on some routes to better serve passengers.

Additionally, introductory promotional fares and some fare reductions join the improved trip times and increased frequencies on many services to make taking the train more flexible, convenient and attractive for passengers.

The new timetables are available at all major stations and schedule information may also be found at www.amtrak.com. Highlights of the schedule changes:

Example from on the time needed to be there before departure.

People should be (arriving at 7:14 a.m.) departure at 7:55 a.m. approx : 41 minutes

This Information is provided by Amtrak...So yours is 4:37pm you need to arrivie at 3:56pm ( 41 minutes ) before departure.

  3. lol id come 1 hour after 4:37pm cuz amtrak is normally delayed

    AMTRAK SUCKS BALLZ!!!

  4. I would make sure to get there around 3:30.  Stop in and say hi when you get here to San Diego!  LOL!

  5. Treat it the same as you would when travelling by air.  It's much better to have to kill some time than to try to kill yourself trying to get there on time.

    Have a safe trip!

  6. Stations don't usualy depart

  7. it is definiteyl not like an airport, where you have to be there 2 hours ahead of time and what not.  In my past excperiences, I have gotten to Penn Station in New York City and taken a train to Washington DC witha ticket, while only getting therr about 20 minutes prior to departure, since the train comes in and only sits on the platform for only about 3-5 minutes.  so in essence, i have about 15 minutes to wait, and then the train and its destination is called over the PA system, and i get my ticket taken.  not a lengthy process at all

  8. To add to jibberjabbar's answer, Amtrak's current policy about buying tickets on board is "[i]n most circumstances, you must have a ticket in hand before you board a train. We permit onboard ticket purchases only in limited circumstances."

In this case, you'll probably be okay if you have to buy a ticket on board the train, but there will be a penalty added to your fare (because the Fullerton station has a ticket agent on duty).  To be on the safe side, if you've got a credit card, you can buy your ticket right now either via amtrak.com or their toll-free number, 1-800-USA-RAIL; they'll either mail your ticket to you or give you a confirmation number that you can use to pick up your ticket from the ticket agent in Fullerton.

My advice is that you arrive half an hour before the train to either buy or pick up your ticket, although I'll be surprised if you have to wait in line that long.

(Jibberjabbar is correct that the 4:37 train doesn't have checked baggage service.  If you can wait for the 5:42 train, that one does accept baggage.)

  9. I would give your self an hour at least. Soak up some of the atmosphere and meet some people.

  10. From what I can tell, the train that you will be taking does not carry any checked luggage, it is all strictly carry-on luggage. This should save you some time.

Amtrak allows 2 pieces of carry-on luggage and allows much larger and heavier pieces then the airlines do.  Personally I have never checked any luggage on any Amtrak train that I have taken. I just carry 'em on and off.  But call Amtrak just to be sure in your case.

Some Amtrak trains allow you to purchase tickets right on the train. So it is conceivable that you could arrive track-side at 4:37, just as the Conductor is shouting "All Aboard" and still make the train.  Again check with Amtrak to see if on-board ticketing is available for your train and departing station.

And of course, ride on the upper level if possible for the best scenic view!

  11. Give yourself at least 30 min. I'd say. Of course, when I took one, I was there an hour or so early and the train was 5 hours late. some thieves had stolen the copper wire that ran the signals. Also while I was there I saw a woman miss her train by no more than 2 minutes! man she was ticked.
