  1. Use a chart then and master all the chords (something like 300 of them). Once you've done that, you've mastered the fretboardd.

  2. Hey man, Guitar is the best. Don't get tied down just keep playing and let it flow. If you want just get some lessons, practice and write your own music. If you write your own music you learn really quickly. Just explore your guitar and enjoy. And remember most of all Fight The Man!!!

  3. you should pratice two to three hours each day and try to learn so much each day and buy some instruction books how fast you learn is your will and music skills

  4. My band director has always told us to practice until we are done, and to me that has always been the best advice for practicing any instrument. A person can only learn so much at one time. Take things in small pieces, and once you have a small piece mastered, stop, take as long of a break as you want, and then don't practice until you feel like it. Always try to practice at least once a day though, even if it is only for ten or fifteen minutes.

  5. it's not about the length...it's all about the technique...first of all you gotta stretch out the fingers and wrist...then practice hammer-ons that improves finger quickness..then practice chords that spread your fingers about and leave it there for a while so that you can build calices, and then practice the intro of songs to get your timing down with your strumming...and that's how i practice...and you'll get better as you go on...so good luck and enjoi! the world of guitar and guitar playing

I've been using this. It's great.

  7. I am a senior guitar instructor. I teach beginning, intermediate, and advanced guitar. Some of my students play professionally even though they are still in high school. To master the fretboard you must *map* the fretboard. Memorization and visualization are key. I guarantee you guitarists such as Joe Satriani can play their music in their head note for note w/o an instrument. Even backwards most likely. Practice memorization and you will become an advanced player. It is imperative to memorize the five pentatonic patterns. Each pattern becomes a container for the scale you desire at the time. Each pentatonic pattern has a minor scale, major scale, harmonic minor, etc. within it. How can anyone find their way around a city w/o a map? Same way with the fretboard. It does require more than two hours per day to become an advanced player. Technical practice is required with repeating/looping drills. Playing in an awesome manner is borne out of such committed practice. There is a rite of passage. After you have rehearsed such scales thousands of times you will sound fantastic. Commitment is required. There is a video called "Rock Discipline" or similar name - that's a great place to start for advanced playing. You will need to do some research and search online the topics I've mentioned above. Thanks.

  8. You can NEVER practice too much. Scales are key!! Check out this site, it might help in your quest to master the fretboard. Hope this helps...
