How long should it a take a lawyer to file a will with probate court?

I gave the lawyer all the documents that we were waiting for and now about 17 days later I have not heard from him and the will has never been filed. How long should it take for this to be filed ?

If you are in a hurry, call the lawyer and ask when it will be filed.  Sometimes an attorney will delay the filing so that the family can get through the first rush and shock of grief.
