I am curious if the garage I am dealing with lied to me about the time it took to do a break job. Is there any way to find out what the average time is for these types of repairs? 2006 Ford Focus, needed new front and rear pads and front rotors.

  1. Should not take longer than 1 - 1 1/2 hours...Call Midas and check with them about how long they would take, that will give you a good time estimate/

  2. It shouldn't take more than an afternoon IF all of the parts are in stock and IF there are no other customers.  It usually takes me about 15 minutes to do each side of my front discs if I'm just doing pads, but I've also done it on this one car for 5 years now, so it's like second nature.  Also, they may have had to cut the rotors, which means taking all of the rough surface off by scraping the top couple of millimeters off...not all places are able to do this in their shop.

  3. once it's inside and on the lift no more than an hour.

  4. I'd be after the old parts like a fly on sh*t. I'm a little confused here. How could the second mechanic make a judgment call on a car that had already been repaired?

You do realize the same thing is going to happen too soon again don't you? Ford has used crappy full metallic brake pads forever and they positively eat and chew brake rotors to an early death. I'd have installed cleaner and quieter ceramic pads and you my dear were totally over-charged. OUCH!!

  5. it probably will take them a long time, since they stand around and bs and take about an hour for coffee break and as long as your car is on the rack, your paying for it. that,s why i do my own work.

  6. Two hours at most. Provided that none of the pistons needed freeing off.
