  1. About an hour to an hour and a half

PS your best bet is to take the RER train (line "B" the blue one) from CDG to Saint Michel then get a taxi to Bastille

  2. Take RER B to Paris as said above but change trains at Chatelet les Halles & connect with metro line 1, Bastille will be 3 stops away in the direction of Chateau de Vincennes.  It will cost 8.20 euros and take about 45 minutes. Here is the metro map:

PS: 5:00 pm is rush hour, avoid road transportation at all costs! Expensive and slow. The subway system is much more efficient.

2nd Edit: Great minds think alike, David! ;-)

Yeah the metro will be crowded (but it will be only a few minutes) but the RER will be fine as commuters will be heading in the opposite direction, so you'll most likely be able to find a seat.

  3. While Otter is correct, another slightly different option is to simply take the train the whole way. One way you can do this is to take the RER B to Gare du Nord station, then métro line 5 (Direction: Porte d'Italie) to Bastille. Another way is to take RER B to the first stop *after* the Gare du Nord- that being Châtelet- and then take métro line 1 (Direction: Château de Vincennes) to Bastille. As I see it, there's some minor sacrifice involved no matter what you do: the bus is probably the slowest option, the train the most crowded option (given that this is during rush hour, after all), and the taxi the most expensive. Here's a métro and RER map that doesn't require any downloading- just click on it to enlarge: http://www.paris-tourisme.com/ratp/pics/...
