Depending on your driving skills it is between 4 and 41/2 hours. But be cautious to drive here if you don't have done it before!.

There are 2 routes.  One that the charter buses use and go through Puerto Plata and one that connects Santiago and Sosua directly (more curves).  About 2 hours between SD and Santiago and another 2 1/2 if you go through PP or 1 1/2 for the more direct route.

Careful driving, driving laws are optional.  Any accident and the police show up, they put you in jail.  Bring the embassy numbers just in case you run into trouble.
