I still have her in a booster seat? I know they go up to 100 lbs but I never see other kids her age in booster seats. Is it safe to say that she no longer needs one?

  1. Man!  I remember being 4 years old and not being in a booster seat.  If you adjust the seat belt correctly and pull tight then what's the need?  Your daughter is what about 9 then.  I know you are trying to look out for your daughter's safety, but really there is no need.  I think that as soon as the child can sit properly in a seat unaided without risk of them falling of the seat because they don't know any better or they dont have their balance, then they don't need a car-seat or booster seat.

  2. My state requires a booster seat for anyone who is under 80 pounds.

  3. any child  under the age of 6 and weighing less than 60 lbs.

has to be in a car seat, this is in calif. so i think she no longer

needs one if your going by that criteria.

  4. here (UK) the law states a child must be in a booster seat until they are 12yr old OR 4ft 5" which ever comes 1st..

so a tall 8 yr old does not have to use a booster seat but a short 11 yr old does.. My daughter is coming up 12 but is only 4ft 1" tall (due to a growth dissorder)......For us it will be easier to stil use a booster seat even when she's 12yr old as if stopped we'll have to prove her age as the police won't believe she's 12yr old........But anyway because she's so small a seatbelt is uncomfortable for her without a booster seat.........She's always gonna be short so we'll have to look into somehow adjusting a seatbelt so it's comfortable for her, but still safe....as an adult she's not goin to want to be in a booser seat............

  5. The weight thing is pretty rediclicious-okay I just grew to 5'2 and over 100 pounds. I'm also 18 years old, I'd be driving in a booster seat. I'd check for what her doctor recommends and for what your state laws are but honestly I don't think any state laws are over 80 pounds.

  6. Yes as long as she is tall enough... if she is small in stature u probably need to leave her in the seat till she is 8 yrs old or it could be against the law...

  7. It depends on your state laws.

Contact your local fire and rescue department or police department.  They will know what the law is for your state.

Here, in VA, I believe it's in a booster until the age of 8 or over 70 lbs.

  8. it like 80 lbs...but the age is 8years old . at least in TX it is...

  9. Height can be a factor just as much (if not more) than age and weight.  It differs slightly from state to state, so just look up your states child safety seat laws.  In my state, there are billboards all over the place reading "4'8" is the magic number" referring to the height children should be before they get rid of a booster.

  10. It's not actually up to you - there are state and provincial laws (depending on what country you're in.)   It's usually 80lb, and age 8 or 10, and in some places height is a factor, and they recommend keeping a child in a booster seat longer, if he/she is small.

I think the easiest way to find out is to call your local police department, and ask them.  They're the ones who enforce the laws.

  11. Click on the link below and it tells you more information

  12. the law in MA is 80 pounds or 8 years old.

  13. check your state laws. each state has it's own laws regarding booster seats.

  14. lol..........i saw this commercial..that they should be in boosters seats till the age of 9......it made me laugh but its the truth :)

  15. hahahaha lol i got out of my booster seat when i was like in 2nd grade

  16. The recommendation is usually 80 lbs.

  17. every state has differnt laws. In wisconsin the new law is booster or car seat till 8 years old or 80 pounds. whichever comes first. If you have a 7 year old who weighs 80 pounds then they no longer need any booster seat.

  18. my answer is NO.

that really embarrasses children, and it will destroy your relationship with her.

I am 18 and i remember when i sat in a booster seat.

i stopped sitting in it when i was around 50 or 60 lbs.

just have her wear her seatbelt. she doesn't have to sit in the FRONT seat though.

  19. The rule is that when they sit with their back and butt against the back of the seat, and their knees bend at the seat properly, AND the seatbelt goes to where it's not over the neck - that's when she can get out of the booster seat.

We stopped at our local police station and had them look to be sure it was okay for her.  She was hounding us big time to get out of the seat.

If everything is okay except the belt across the neck, they sell things that can be put on the seat belt to make the connection of the lap and shoulder parts a little different so as to avoid it going across her neck.

  20. I think it is okay to stop using the booster seat once they hit 60 points and are above 48 inches.  It sounds to me like she no longer needs one.

  21. yes!!!! i am not trying to critisize but you really need to take her out! just make her wear her seat belt and stuff but you can take them out at 60 pounds! you are a GREAT mom and obviously love your kids, but a 9 year old should not be in a booster seat! i lost mine at 7! and so did all of my friends and the kids i know now!!!!! by the way you are right NOBODY her age will be sitting in a booster seat!!!!!!!!!!!!

    good luck!

  22. Its different for diff states. In GA, its 48 inches or 40lbs. whichever comes first. My daughter is 5 and is over 40 lbs. I still have her in booster seat because it just keeps her contained, plus it has cup holders. She doesn't seem to mind so I guess ill be taking her out soon. not sure when.

  23. I took my daughter out of the booster seat when the seatbelt hit the right spot on her.  She's tall, so it was early.  I think there's also something now that positions the seatbelt correctly that you can get.  I don't know what the recommendations are for boosters now - my daughter is 13 - and 98 pounds - I think the weight thing is ridiculous .

  24. Most states laws require a child to sit in a booster seat if they are under 8 and under 40 lbs. I would check the law in your specific state. I would say she is n the clear though.
