  1. You mean like Pergo?   Gross stuff.

I would expect 10 years, unless they wash it a lot.

Tile or wood are 1000 times better.

  2. Laminate flooring has been trashed on HGTV, but I can tell you now, if you have lots of children or dogs with nails, it will outlast any hardwood.

Laminate flooring is usually MORE expensive (if the quality is good) than actual hardwoods and this "thing" that HGTV has about depreciating the value of a home....appraisers will tell you that it doesn't, and insurance companies will also "bump" the amount they cover.

This is all in the eyes of the beholder.

It's a good choice for a rental home b/c you don't have carpet and it won't stain like a hardwood floor can.

Laminate floors are designed to last for 25 years or better...I real hardwood floors cannot take the damage that a good quality laminate can.

The problem with laminate floors is in the INSTALLATION.  They make some that require no glue and have a snap-lock to them.  I put them in one rental house and it has performed like a dream.

I have seen hardwood floors get so damaged from pet stains that they cannot be sanded (b/c the stain will go through the wood to the subfloor).

  3. Here's what I recommend, at least under appliances in the kitchen and in hi-traffic areas: Abzorb Mats.

We use them in pet areas and have in campus properties. (They get ugly with grease, otherwise).

Cheap and sturdy stuff. Also use them in garage and under grill out back. Get a roll!

  4. I depends on who puts it down and how good of a job they do, and the condition of the floor underneath. Also how cheap of laminate and adhesive they used, I've seen it last 10 years and seen it come up in a week.
