  1. Your vet will give you detailed instructions on how to care for your cats once the surgery is over, and should give you prescriptions with the correct dosage and amount of pills.  No one on here can give you medical advice because they aren't physically caring for YOUR cats.  Just do what YOUR vet tells you.

  2. The vet will decide that based on your cats, I don't think you will have to know what they need, nor can you tell him what he needs to give you!

Some vets provide pain pills, some do not.  Some provide antibiotics, some do not.  It is often dependant upon the individual vet and even pet

The vet should have a "release process" where they or a technician will walk you through all the things you need to do for your kitty when you take him/her home.

  3. the vet i took my kitten to didnt even give meds after the surgery...supposedly they arent a necessity.

  4. Most cats and dogs do well with out any type of medication after a spay or neuter. Sometimes a doctor will recommend a pain medication for three to four days, and sometimes an antibiotic. Even at the most affordable clinics, they will give your pet an injection of antibiotics and pain medication while they are sedated.

Either way, you will be given a prescription, and cannot purchase anymore than what you are prescribed. These are controlled substances, just like prescription medication for humans.

When you pick up your cat, they should go over all after care instructions and any medications, and send a copy of everything they tell you, home with you. Follow the doctor's instructions and feel free to ask questions.

This is a very common procedure. Don't worry too much.

  5. Just follow the directions on the bottle. If antibiotics are given, you are expected to use it all on the pets. The doctor will advise and don't forget to ask him questions. Make a list so you don't forget.
