  1. Do it for about a minute and do not flap your legs because that's how you injure yourself.

  2. Just press down, for about 10 seconds. 20 seconds is too long.

  3. Butterfly stretches can be done for up to 30-90 secs.  If you are doing post exercise static stretching, you should do all the major muscle groups for no less than 10 secs but 30 secs are good for stretching or relaxing.  If you exhibit tightness in the area you may want to do this stretch after warming up.  Pressing down is the preferred method.  Flapping your legs can put you in a position to injure yourself.

Remember when stretching, you should do an active dynamic warmup prior to working out (some people misname this as a plyometric warmup).  An AD warmup combines movement and stretching and has the best results for actually preparing the body for movement and has been proven to increase strength and power.  Static stretching has been shown to increase flexibility but actually shown to decrease strength and power.

  4. do not bounce your legs up and down....just try to push your legs down to the ground.....and hold for 20-30 seconds.

    hope i helped!
