How long till i get my compensation?

i have just won a case, and i spoke to my solictor, who said i should recieve my cheque with in 28 days. it has now been 5 weeks. so i rang him and he said, he has to cash it in his bank before i get it. does this sound legit?

  1. dont sound legit to me but check terms & conditions of the case (their terms etc i mean)


  2. Follow back up with your lawyer. He's the one who has the money.

  3. Here in the US, that's normally how it works on a contingency basis. The liable party makes the check out to "plaintiff name and his/her attorney name". So the attorney deposits it and then writes you a check for your portion, minus his fees. But the attorney would normally call you in to sign off on the check first, unless you signed something allowing him to deposit the check without your signature. I would inquire further if I were you.

  4. It only sounds legit if that's how you are paying him.  Call another solicitor and ask like you are asking for information, that if he/she tries a case for you and wins who will the check be made out to?
