How long till placenta detachment causes death/injury?

i am obbsesing over external version, but if i did it in the hospital, and my placenta detached could they do a cecerian BEFORE the baby died or suffered brain damage do to lack of oxygen?

  1. In the highly, highly unlikely event that it happened, and there was a complete detachment then yes an emergency c-section could be performed.

    Please note that placentral abruption actually happens in about 1 in 125 pregnancies, and almost always this has nothing to do with version.  The risk of it actually happening as a direct result of version is extremely low and it's largely unknown whether it would have happened anyway, without the version being attempted.

    Depending on how severe the detachment is, management of the condition will vary.

    Abruption is normally monitored before a decision is made whether to jump in and intervene.  If the baby does not appear to be distressed and the abruption is only partial, then you may be allowed to continue the pregnancy.  If the abruption is severe (complete or near to it) or your are bleeding heavily, then an emergency c-section will usually be done.

    Please, don't obsess over version, it's done all the time, safely and successfully.
