How long to be an ok figure skater?

Question

i am starting lessons soon and i was wondering how long it took to become ok enough to impress people. my mum used to be a figure skater but she started alot younger than me

it really depends on your definition of ok, and how strong and balanced you are before you start. if you have done things like roller blading a lot in your lifetime, you'll have a better chance of being able to do things quicker. the amount of time you spend on the ice does matter, but sometimes a skater who goes twice a week is better than the skater who goes four times a week even if they have been skating for about the same amount of time and are the same age. it took me about two years to get to freestyle 5, but it may take someone else 5 years. after you've been skating for about a year, I'd say you'd be considered an okay skater, but it really depends. :DDD

Well it all depends on you! One word PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE. The longer you're on the ice, the better you'll skate with confidence.  As an adult you have advantage of grasping the technique faster. All you need is confidence!

My daughter has been skating on and off for 3 years and she is now at Freestyle 2 level and learning salchows. She is 10 years old. When she started, she hated her coach and hated skating but never told me. After we moved to another rink, she now has a new coach and is in LOVE with her skating. She skates 2-3 times a week.  

As long as you ENJOY what you are doing, you do great!

It takes about 2 years! I know because me and my sister have been doing it for 2 years! We both have all our doubles, and working on double axels! People are impresed with us, so I would say 2 years! My sister is 10, been skating since she was 8, now people are very impressed with her! And 2 years! She is Pre Juvinille! Me, I have been skating since I was 10 since 12, and I am Juvininille, I actually  have been skating 2 and a half years! But people are really impressed with me! 2 to 3 years, and people on the public sesion will be claping for you, just like they are for me, and my sister!
