How long does it generally take to learn a language if you are in complete immersion?

I already speak french and english fluently and also some spanish.

I'm asking because I may have the opportunity to be an exchange student in germany.

Thanks for any help! :D

  1. well...

one year -2 years and you can talk without stuttering and germans can identify the sense of your sentences

  2. It depends what you mean by fluent!!

When you go on exchange in another country and are completely immersed you pick up the language pretty quickly. Seeing as you already know other languages, it means youd probably pick another one up more easily. Id say after three months youll be able to understand most things when people dont speak to fast, or too complicated and be able to say some simple sentences. After six months, youll be able to understand pretty much everything (within rezason) and be able to hold a decent conversation. If you stay for a year, by the end of it, you should be talking like a local! Best of Luck on your exchange!
