Question:

How long to get Background Check when joining Army?

My husband is trying to join the Army after being a Navy Veteran and they will not let him go to MEPS until a background check is done. He just got released from the reserves less than 30 days ago and they are making him do this since he had a DUI 4.5 yrs ago. Does anyone know if this is necessary before he goes to MEPS and if so how long does it take to come back?

  1. A cursory check should be all that is needed unless his MOS requires a high security clearance. The cursory should not take more than a week or two unless he has moved from state to state a lot in the last several years.

Vet-USAF / I have had 2 done this year for potential job offers.
