  1. Not a matter of time, more a matter of $$$.  How much does it cost to test there for each rank?

I'm suspicious of any martial arts studio that operates for profit.

  2. At least 2 to 3 years.

  3. It's a matter to be taken up with your instructor or master.  It isn't a race to get a black belt.  Certain Federations can go as fast as 2 years, I've seen McDojos do it in a year.  My school after you get your temp. black, you have wait at least six months before going after first dan and then you have to have permission from your instructor and grandmaster.

  4. It takes about 2-3 weeks to get a black belt unless you pay for the overnight shipping.

Now to EARN a black belt takes considerably longer.

I've only seen one person in our dojo earn his in less than 3 years.  That was a special case because he was overseas in the military and  took private lessons for a year or two with another black belt from our school he was stationed with.  Most adults take at least 5 years.  Kids take at least 7 years.

  5. It shouldn't take less than 3 years - if it does, I'd be suspicious. On average, I'd say it takes around 4 years to get to 1st dan. There's no rush to get to black belt, you'll do better if you just focus on training hard. Good luck.

  6. im a black belt in tkd i got it yesterday

and it took me 3 years because u have 2 go 2 a tourament and im 26 and my little girl is 7 and she did it 4 1 year and she is a blue belt

  7. Perhaps two to four years. I heard that some guys go to Korea and claim to have received their black belts in six months. I highly doubt that anyone who receives the black belt in TKD in six months would be very proficient.

  8. At a LEGITIMATE dojo -- 5 to 10 years.

I'm talking about a "grown up's" black belt, not a "kid's" black belt.

  9. about 1 year

  10. It takes a while. If you really want to be a true black belt, really earn it, you have to have a full knowledge of taekwondo as well as know all the patterns, one step sparring, being able to teach a class, know korean terminology, etc. I believe that no matter how often you go a week, you should stay on a belt for at least 3 months - AT LEAST!! I don't know anybody who's really good who's gotten it in 2 years or less. So I'd say 2 and a half years at the least.

  11. 5-10 years at a real club, 2-3 years in a McDojang

  12. Depending on the school and where the school is affiliated, its about 2yrs.  My son goes to an ATA affiliated school and has taken to it well, so it will be about two yrs.  Be careful and shop which schools actually care about their students learning something and which school just want your money and push you through the curriculum.  I like the school my son attends b/c they really make the kids earn the black belt.  I have noticed good improvements in my sons motor skills, maturity, and self confidence.  This has translated well into other sports he participates in also.  Try checking out www.ataonline.com, and good luck w/ the journey buddy!

  13. It really depends on the school, some places that are legit will take years, and then there are the McDojos that will give out black belts in a year or two.

But bottom line is, if you train 5 days a week, you'll progress faster then most other people, so its really just a matter of whether your instructor feels you are ready for the next test or not, but it should take around 3-4 years at least.
