How long would it take a semi-competent, non-professional aveage guy to paint this room, including time to do the edges around the quarter-board and ceiling. Assume it's already taped up. How long do I have to wait for flat paint to dry? (pls don't say read the can).

Thanks alL!

  1. If you are not priming if first.... about an hour if you are quick. It generally takes me about 2  to 3 hours to paint at my job, but I like to take my  time and do it correctly.

If you really want to make sure that the paint is dry, let is dry over night and then put a second coat on if need. (but is can't hurt to read the can ;))

  2. Dude, the actual paint time is minimal when compared to the time it takes to clear out the room and prep the areas (lay down plastic, tape around doors, windows, ceiling, floorboards and other fixtures such as built-in bookshelves).  Considering the piles of stuff in my room, it would take me three days to clear it out.

  3. By your description I feel like I already know you. My Hope Depot book for idiots says it should take 4-6 hr. Two to three coats...I suggest three. If you properly ventilate paint will dry fast. You should be able to determine by eye when the paint is dry.

  4. You are looking at probably an hour to cut in, roll out for each coat.  Will dry in about 1 1/2 hours before recoat.  Repeat the process.  So 3 hours for dry time, and 2 hours for actual painting.  Total time=5 hours.  Now get working!
