  1. It would depend on where you were starting and ending and the ship you were on. Obviously, it would take longer to reach Copenhagen than Liverpool, for example.

There's a passenger list from a steamship voyage from Liverpool to Boston here: http://www.gjenvick.com/CunardLine/1901-... According to this the trip lasted 7 days: Oct 19 - 28. the trip in the other direction would be approximately the same. This record of trips by the New England on the same route includes 7 day journeys during 1901 and 6.5 days in 1902: http://www.norwayheritage.com/p_ship.asp...

Here are some sailings from Kristiania to New York in 1901 in 14 days: Kristiansand

According to this site, the Deutschland could make the crossing in under 5 days: http://www.bbc.co.uk/history/british/vic...

  2. WHERE ARE YOU TRAVELING FROM

  3. The time it took to travel to Europe depended on the horsepower capabilities, size of vessel, number of screws (propellers), size of vessel and other factors.  There was also a trade-off between speed and coal consumption.

In 1901, one of the fastest ships was the North German Line S.S. Deutschland which was capabable of averaging 23.51 Knots per hour and made the New York to Naples, Italy in 7 Days, 16 Hours and 44 Minutes.  The Kaiser Wilhelm der Grosse of the North German Line made the New York to Southampton run in 5 Days, 17 Hours and 8 Minutes.

The Gjenvick-Gjønvik Archives has a number of brochures and passenger lists that address the speed records.  They also have a FAQ on How Fast a Steamship Could Cross the Ocean.

  4. Well. If you live in "europe" it could be 0 seconds.

If you lived in say Australia. It could be hundreds of years. Before you were declared a non-criminal. And be deemed allowed to travel.

    Either way.
