Question:

How long to wait before putting contact lens in?

You go to the opticians for a contact lens check-up and the optician puts some drops in your eye that makes you see everything in an orange tint - the drops are to check for infection, I think. How long should you wait before putting contact lenses in after the orange drops have been put in your eyes?

(I also asked this in General Health, before I realised there was an Optical section.)

  1. I was told recently to wait for about an hour before putting in my contacts, which was the same as the time I should wait after using eye drops.

As has been said, it seems to differ for everyone. Your optician should tell you when they put the dye in, or else ask them then.

  2. Unless the optician advises you otherwise, it should be fine to put your lenses straight back in after the appointment - I always have done.

  3. When I have gone to the opticians for a lens check-up (which is every three months), my lens specialist advises me not to replace my lenses for at least 30 Min's.

Perhaps different opticians use different time scales, you need to ask.

  4. I waited 24 hours

  5. I waited about 24 hours. That is just me, b.c. I have very sensitive eyes, but usually you should wait at least 12.

  6. Hmm, I have contacts but I've never had anything like that in my eye, even when I did have an eye infection.

I've had my pupils dilated, but that's no big deal, I put my contacts in right away.
