Is it normal to replace them once every two years or so? I can't seem to make mine last much longer than that.

  1. It's pretty normal to replace them every 2-3 years.I try to do just that, not because my eye doctor wants me to,but because I usually want a new pair around that time, after a couple years, you tend to get bored with the same pair.I love the pair I have now even after having them almost a year, though!

  2. I've had mine for over three years, the last pair I had were easily 10 years old.  What do you do with them?

  3. yeah, it's normal.

i always have to fix mine, cuz i hav a habit of sleeping in them. lol.

but yeah, they dont last super long. i mean, it's a very thin piece of metal.

  4. 2 to 3 years.

  5. It can depend on what you buy. The old adage, "you get what you pay for" truly applies to eyeglass frames. When you look at all the frames to choose from, you can see very little difference other than the style.

There are a few different materials available that can make your frame last from a  year to 10 years. With standard nickel metal, a cheap frame will wear off it's finish much more rapidly and solder joints aren't very sturdy, so they break sooner. Stainless steel is strong and will resist corrosion and seem to hold the adjustment better. Titanium is exceptionally corrosion resistant, so the appearance of the frame will generally stay new looking for years. It is also the lightest material for comfort. Memory metal frames hold up well for those who may be hard on their glasses. It has a mixture of titanium and nickel and has great flexibility in the bridge and temples (side pieces) Some people have had frames like that for over 10 years. Also, some of these frames are warrantied by the MFG for 2 years!

Eyeglasses are an expensive item to buy. If you spend a little more on the frame initially, it may save you some money over time. A good quality frame can allow you to just replace the lenses from your next few exams, plus you may not have to run in for repair or adjustments as frequently. Just be sure to keep at least one pair of your old glasses around for spare.

  6. very normal every 2 years

  7. Ive had the glasses I'm wearing right now for over 7 years.  Of course your  optician wants you to get new ones every year or so, but I think thats just to make money.  Unless your prescription has changed, you shouldn't need new glasses.

  8. very normal
