Unfortunately, your question is not as simple as you intended it to be. You cannot reach the speed of light. If you were to travel most of the distance at very nearly the speed of light, then you could probably cross the distance within a couple of generations. However, more than 2 million years would have passed on the Earth as you traveled outward. Realistically, the effects of acceleration and deceleration would affect these results severely, so it would probably take you more like a couple of thousand years while tens of millions of years passed on Earth.... and this is assuming that you could approach the speed of light very closely. The difference is due to relativity effects.

They say, and who are "they", astrobiologist, astrophysists, astronomers, and other scientists, people much, much smarter then me, state that the nearest galaxy, Andromadia or Messier 31 is still 2 million light years from us.  Traveling by this method seems to not be very fast, however, it is the limit we have at the moment.  Light speed is the time it takes light to travel for us to see.  It takes light 8 minutes to travel from the sun to Earth and we are approximately 63 million miles from the sun at any given point in time.

Well at the speed of light, the incredible distances mean about 2 million years PLUS just to our nearest significant neighbour.

The speed of light is 300, 000 kilometers a SECOND.

So thats a distance of about 10 TRILLION kilometers in one year. So basically, at even 10% of the speed of light, thats 20 MILLION years. So pretty much traveling to another galaxy is impossible.
